New York City Triathlon
The triathlon is one of the most gruelling of all endurance sports events. Nonetheless, this Olympic-distance event attracts more than 1000 hardy competitors to New York to swim the Hudson River, bike along the Henry Hudson Parkway and run through Central Park. For those who don't feel ready to test themselves against the nation's top athletes, there are plenty of vantage points from which to view the action.
The 1500-metre swim follows a linear course parallel to the seawall, allowing spectators to look down on the swimmers. Athletes enter the water from a pontoon moored at 98th St and exit at 79th St. The expected water temperature in July is around 72°F and wetsuits are allowed.
The 40km cycling portion of the race takes the competitors from Riverside Park north onto the Henry Hudson Parkway, through the Bronx, where they make a U-turn just inside Yonkers, proceeding south on the Henry Hudson Parkway to 57th St, where another U-turn takes them north to exit the Henry Hudson Parkway at 79th St and back to the transition area.
But it's not over yet. Next comes the 10km run and what is one of the most scenic final legs of any triathlon in the world. Runners enter Central Park at 72nd St and run in a clockwise direction around the northern loop before finishing on Dead Road, just west of the bandshell on the 72nd Street Transverse in Central Park. Runners pass various New York landmarks like the world-famous Tavern on the Green restaurant, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Central Park Reservoir.
The race is open to individuals and two- or three-member relay teams. All participants must be 18 years of age or older on race day. Please contact the organisers for more information.

Cabs Transition, swim start, and the Central Park finish are a cab or subway ride from all New York hotels. All of these locations are less than a $5 cab ride. To get a cab in New York, stand on the street and stick your arm in the air.
Blackberries and Cell Phones Please don't bring your blackberry with you during the race. You're not that important.
Hudson River The Hudson is clean - you don't need shots.
Lost and Found, and Post Race Clothing There is no lost and found. There is a bag drop at swim start (MUST be in a race bag with your number). All bags will be brought to the finish area. Your transition items will remain in transition until you pick up your stuff. Transition and bag pick up at the finish closes at 3:00 pm. Anything not claimed will be donated to the nearest dumpster.

The ethereal Tribute in Light memorial was designed to help lessen the aching loss felt across the country since 9/11. It is a profound symbol of strength, hope and resiliency.

In popular culture 'The Bronx' has often symbolized violence, decay, and urban ruin. In fact, there are guidebooks that say you must never go to the Bronx! Sheer ignorance, that is all we have to say! Interactive Bronx map
