Grand Central Kaleidoscope Light Show

December 2007 - January 2008
For a month leading up to New Year, New York's stunning Grand Central Station joins in the festive spirit as a spectacular light and sound show transforms the main concourse's famed Sky Ceiling.
Painted on the Sky Ceiling in a wash of blue like a planetarium are the constellations of the winter zodiac. In fact, when the station was first built it was thought that the ceiling might be used as an astronomical teaching tool. For the holiday season, the constellations are brought to life in a stunning light show that's set to music. Meanwhile, down on the ground, stalls fill the station with an abundance of handicrafts, jewellery, clothes and home furnishings - ideal for last-minute Christmas shopping.
If you want to make a real trip of it, the station also possesses an excellent selection of bars and restaurants. Overlooking the main concourse is a good jazz restaurant and above here is the rather more exclusive Campbell's Apartment, a cosy 1940s-style gentleman's bar. Lastly, down in the basement you will find the famous Oyster Bar, which dishes up more than 90 different seafood items including a dozen kinds of oysters and, of course, clam chowder.

The ethereal Tribute in Light memorial was designed to help lessen the aching loss felt across the country since 9/11. It is a profound symbol of strength, hope and resiliency.

In popular culture 'The Bronx' has often symbolized violence, decay, and urban ruin. In fact, there are guidebooks that say you must never go to the Bronx! Sheer ignorance, that is all we have to say! Interactive Bronx map
