Madison Avenue is a north-south avenue in the borough of Manhattan in New York City that carries northbound one-way traffic. It runs from Madison Square (at 23rd Street) to the Madison Avenue Bridge at 138th Street. In doing so, it passes through Midtown, the Upper East Side (including Carnegie Hill), Spanish Harlem, and Harlem. It is named for and arises from Madison Square, which is itself named for James Madison, the fourth President of the United States.
To reach Madison Avenue
BUS : The M1, M2, M3, or M4 traverse uptown or the M86, M79, M72, and M66 crosstown.
SUBWAY : The 4, 5, and 6 run along Lexington Avenue.
The F train stops at the Lexington/63rd Street station.
The N, R, And W trains stop at the 5th Avenue station.
PARKING :
Ample metered parking is available along Madison Avenue. Independent parking garages are situated on the east and west side-streets.
Hours of Operation
Generally Madison Avenue stores are open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm. Several boutiques maintain late hours on Thursdays and are open on Sundays. Many art galleries are closed on Mondays. Restaurants serve lunch and dinner daily.
